dentures

Dentures

Dentures are removable replacement teeth. They can either be full, replacing all the teeth on either the upper or lower gums, or partial, replacing only a few, or even one tooth. Dentures are made of acrylic, nylon or plastic. Gaps left by missing teeth can cause extreme problems with speech, eating and can cause teeth on either side of the gap to slide into the hole and grow at an angle. Dentures solve this problem and can restore confidence and rejuvenate your smile. Complete dentures are usually fitted as soon as teeth are removed so that you are not left without teeth. Gums and bone will adjust and realign themselves after teeth have been removed and so dentures that were fitted immediately, will need to be replaced and refitted after a few months.

scaling polish and Fluoride

Scaling Polish and Fluoride

Gum disease and tooth decay are caused by a buildup of plaque and bacteria. You can take care of your teeth by brushing regularly but it’s still best to go for a scale and polish in your dentist to make sure you haven’t missed areas. Scaling is when a dentist removes plaque and tartar buildup from the surface of your teeth. The more plaque buildup there is, the longer the scale and polish will take. First an ultrasound scraper is used to remove the bulk of the tartar and then, if necessary, handheld scrapers are used to remove hard deposits.

crown and bridges

Crown and Bridges

Our teeth are very sensitive and sometimes a lack of good oral hygiene, gum disease or injury leads to cavities or missing teeth. Dentists can fight back and protect your teeth with the aid of crowns and bridges. A crown is a cap over a tooth used to protect it, cover a cavity or hole or improve the appearance of a tooth. It’s a manufactured tooth cover made out of ceramic or porcelain that is white or tooth colored and molded to fit your mouth. Sometimes a metal crown is used for strength, usually when replacing or repairing back teeth, however this is usually covered with porcelain to retain a natural look.

orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontic treatment is used to correct crooked or misaligned and misshapen teeth to correct issues with biting and sometimes to improve cosmetic appearances. Most of us have crooked or crowded teeth so that our teeth don’t meet perfectly when we bite. This can look unsightly and can mean our teeth are more likely to get damaged and covered in plaque and bacteria. Orthodontic braces correct the appearance of our teeth and spread the bite pressure more evenly to support the long-term health of our teeth, gums and jaw.

root canal treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is used to save a tooth when infection has set into the root. Your teeth are made up of two main parts. The upper part of the tooth that sticks through the gums is called the crown. It’s comprised of an outer layer of enamel and an inner layer of dentine. Inside the tooth, going down into the gum, is a root filled with pulp that anchors your tooth to your jaw. Doctors call the pulp chamber inside the root, the root canal. It’s filled with blood vessels, nerves and soft tissue.

veneer

Veneers

Veneers are thin covers that go over the outside of your teeth to protect them or in most cases, to improve their appearance. They are made from porcelain or tooth covered polymers and are permanently bonded to your teeth. Chipped, colored or small teeth can be fixed by means of dental veneers. Traditional porcelain veneers will be custom made for your teeth. Your teeth must be prepared for their application, usually by smoothing down and removing a small layer to make space for the veneers. Composite veneers do not usually require the tooth to be prepared in advance and usually do not require local anesthetic.

extraction

Extraction ( regular-surgical)

Sometimes teens or young adults have to have their wisdom teeth removed. However there are several cases when dental extraction is necessary. Extreme tooth decay, large cavities and infections can all necessitate a tooth to be removed, and sometimes your gums are overcrowded and a tooth has to be removed to make space. Anyone undergoing chemotherapy or organ transplants may need infected teeth removed to reduce chances of complications when the bodies immune system is compromised

cosmetic filling

Cosmetic Filling

Cosmetic fillings are white or tooth colored fillings that can be used to fill cavities without being conspicuous. They are made from a resin composite material and are extremely durable, they will last a lifetime and look great. The resin material is putty like and can be molded easily. It is placed into the cavity and shaped to fill the gap perfectly. It is then set and bonded to your teeth by using a special blue light that causes the polymers to react and harden and bond to your teeth so that they look great and stay secure for a lifetime.
